The popular approaches to dealing with stress are based on the induction of a relaxation response through physical means-yoga, Tai Chi, etc. The meditation system advocated here also includes the physical relaxation response induced by meditation, but goes further. It aims at helping the individual recognize and transcend the behavioral patterns that lead to stress response. E.g. becoming angry out of the false belief that disagreement must be accompanied by it; being afraid because of the false belief that fear must logically follow a threat, and so on. Learn to transcend as opposed to managing stress.
